PROJECT STUDIES

Groovv® Terminal Launch
I led the production team's work on the complex package for a new product launch for Total Merchant Services to be sold in the Apple Store. While the creative team worked on the main layouts, the production team applied the look to the internal layouts, reviewed the print specs and Apple guidelines and made internal mock ups and gave feedback to the printer regarding the supplied die lines. As the launch deadline approached, I helped concept solutions for reducing printing costs and incorporating the in-line printed unique product code on the 'Welcome' envelope. The launch went off without a hitch and the client was very pleased and thankful for our proactive help, going from nothing, to a package that imbued the product with the class, value and unboxing experience they desired. On-Site Johnson & Johnson Internal PPT Project
I worked directly with the VP Talent Acquisition and team on a three-month new project to create a series of internal educational slide decks, developed and deployed weekly. They were designed to give the team a sense of ownership in reviewing the processes and giving experienced feedback on how to continually improve process. I and one other designer took notes and designed on the fly during intense brainstorming sessions in the 'war room' (a room with four floor-to-ceiling dry erase walls) with an international team that required visual representations of their concepts, info graphics and stats. GS1 Barcode Initiative
I worked as a production artist and co-production lead on a project to update all linear barcodes for packaging from HIBC to GS1 linear for multiple brands. It involved high-level bar code verification with the company and with each printer involved to meet the legal standards, the batch creation of these barcodes and coordinating placement across many components under an extremely quick turn around (2 months for approximately 40 pieces). The project involved overtime and weekends, and led to many client compliments and expanded work. [BACK TO RESUME]

New Ethicon Suture launch (Artwork confidenial)
I worked as production lead for a new product with four components: box, sleeve, pouch and multilingual IFU. The creative department made the new box design, and production took the design and applied it to other components, making sure the artwork from the box and sleeve had a seamless continuation and taking the printing substrate into consideration to recommend changes to the art and color space as needed. We also created the multilingual map IFUs. I maintained the files for use on two other similar brands, laying the groundwork for an efficient application of the look. As standard procedure, I resized the supplied CAD die files to scale, and vetted them by coordinating with the packaging engineers. [BACK TO RESUME]

Restructuring Internal DRAFT and Final Release Process
Upon being hired into the production department, based on past experience and as a true believer in process, I noticed room for improving efficiency with a few simple changes. Working with the department manager, I developed DRAFT and final release safeguards including standardized slugs, job bag organization and simple checklists (which have since been transferred to digital forms). I developed the content and design of the process elements, then reviewed them with the production manager, then with the entire team in a series of lunch-and-learn sessions to introduce and tailor the process.
